If you cannot hear yourself while recording a video or your microphone is failing the equipment test, close any other programs that may be using your microphone like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc. Additionally, ensure you make noise during the equipment test.
Please note: If you are in a Live interview and you see a US LOCAL, TOLL FREE, and an INTERNATIONAL option for phone numbers, you will be required to join the interview audio through your phone and not your computer.
Use these steps to check your microphone settings:
- Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner and select System Preferences.
- Double-click the Sound icon.
- Select the Input tab to see the list of microphones.
- Click on the microphone you want to use. The Internal microphone is typically used.
- Adjust Input volume by moving the slider to the right. Do this while you speak in a normal voice. You can stop moving it to the right when the Input level bars below move to the halfway point.
- If you see an additional microphone you can disable it by selecting it in the list and scaling the volume slider all the way to the left.
- Exit your microphone settings and try recording a video or accessing the interview again.
- If the microphone issues continue, restart your computer and try recording a video or accessing the interview again. If restarting your computer doesn't resolve the issue, please switch to a different microphone like a headset or headphones with a built-in microphone.
