Creating and Managing Custom Competencies
Custom Competencies
HireVue Builder allows you to define “custom competencies”. This is useful if your organization wants to use its own competencies or customize existing HireVue competencies. You can define the competency name, description, rating scales, and associated questions. These will be used when evaluating your candidate’s performance in their interview.
Management and Editor
Competencies are managed from your My Company page. You can navigate to this page by clicking your name in the top right corner and selecting My Company from the menu.
The My Company page has up to two sections (depending on your settings) relating to competency management:
- HireVue Competencies: This section shows the HireVue competencies written by our team of IO psychologists. You can click on a competency to view its details and associated questions.
2. Custom Competencies: This section will list all of your custom competencies. If you haven’t created any custom competencies yet, this section will be empty. There is a button labeled New Custom Competency on the right that will allow you to create your custom competencies.
Creating a New Custom Competency
Click on the New Custom Competency button at the top right of the Custom Competencies section. There are 2 options:
- Duplicate a HireVue Competency
This option allows you to copy an existing HireVue competency and make edits before saving. - Create a New Competency
This option will give you a blank custom competency to start from scratch.
Fill in or edit the fields when the custom competency form opens.
Editing a Custom Competency
To edit a custom competency, click the pencil icon on the right side of its name. Edit any fields you’d like and click save to publish your changes. Any changes made to a custom competency will not be reflected on existing interviews, positions, or templates. Create a new template and position to use your changes.
Deleting a Custom Competency
To delete a custom competency, click the trash can icon on the right side of its name. Click “Delete Competency” to confirm the action. Deleted custom competencies will not be removed from existing interviews, positions, or templates. After deleting a competency it will not be available for use in new templates.
Interview-Level Competencies
Below the rating scale labels there is a checkbox that says “This is an interview-level competency”. By selecting this checkbox you set this custom competency to be an interview-level competency. An example interview-level competency is communication. An Interview-level competency is used to evaluate a candidate’s performance across an interview and will appear in the evaluator on every competency-based question. For this reason you cannot add questions to an interview-level competency.
